Admission Criteria

Before you are admitted to a programme, particularly a QQI award, we check that you can fulfil the admission criteria. This page covers those criteria.

The criteria include:

Meeting the minimum educational entry requirements
Minimum age requirements
The ability to understand and communicate the concepts covered within the programme
Assessment of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) if required

Minimum entry requirements

To access a programme leading to a specific QQI award, applicants must hold the knowledge, skills and competence linked to the preceding NFQ level. For example, entry to a Level 6 programme requires achievement of a Level 5 qualification. This may have been gained through formal study or through relevant life and work experience.

Applicants must also show a genuine interest in their chosen field. It is each applicant’s responsibility to ensure they fully understand the course they are applying for, complete all required enrolment documents and pay any applicable fees.

Documentation to support your application

Typical documentation required includes:
– Completed registration form
– Photocopy of personal identification
– Photocopies of previous qualifications

Minimum Age Requirements

The minimum age for enrolment with Aspire Training is 17 years.

English Language Requirements

All Aspire Training programmes are delivered in English. Learners must have a standard of English that enables them to understand the course content and express the concepts clearly. Where English is not a learner’s first language, additional supports may be available as outlined under learner accommodations

RPL for Programme Entry

Where an applicant does not meet the standard entry requirements for a QQI Level 5 or 6 programme, consideration may be given to those with:
– At least three years’ relevant vocational experience, and/or
– Previous certified learning within the relevant vocational sector

Applicants seeking RPL entry must provide:
– A completed Aspire Training RPL Application Form detailing previous certified learning and experience
– Relevant certificates and transcripts linked to an awarding body Certificates from abroad must be aligned with the Irish NFQ before assessment
– Programme details from prior certified learning, to confirm alignment with QQI module descriptors
Employer references

Applications are reviewed by the Academic Committee, with a formal response issued within 14 days.
